Devlog #1: where Galactic Veins stands
Galactic Veins is a space mining and factory game: you fly a huge mining ship into asteroid fields, mine what's inside, and run a factory on its deck to keep it fighting. It is coming to Steam Early Access.
The game was rebuilt from scratch this autumn, on a cleaner base, with the old prototype kept only as a reference. Since then, five milestones are done and playable:
- Ship in space: flying the ship through the first star system, with the systems streaming in and out as you travel.
- Asteroid fields and mining: fields of thousands of rocks, a mining turret that heats up, the first four ores and your cargo hold. Rocks knock into each other, and the frame rate holds.
- Factory and save: refineries, generators, storage, power with priorities, drones on roads carrying goods between buildings. Save, quit, load, and the factory keeps running where it was.
- Fight back: weapon turrets firing ammo your own factory made, the first two enemy ships, hull sections that take damage, and a repair bay to fix them.
- Menus: HUD, build bar, main and pause menus, settings with key remapping, and a goal tracker.
Now: System 1's full map, a 100 km system with a map screen. You click a far signal and the ship flies there on its own, slowing down before it hits a rock.
